E. Kansas | What a great gift to receive. There a lot of things to learn about playing a guitar, but having the enthusiasm to learn and to practice/play are the key ingredients.
I suggest you find a guitar player who gives lessons to get you started. Even if you don't do that, be sure that you completely understand how to tune your guitar. Guitar tuning skill is an essential part of playing. You'll probably want to get a tuner. Tuning is a very common task you'll need to do almost every time you play and lots of times even during playing. It is a simple process once you understand it and hear and appreciate the results of it. There many types of variations in tuning for more advanced playing, but don't worry about that now. That will be easy to figure out later and use once you're familiar with the basic guitar tuning.
Be sure you also know how to tune your guitar to a piano (hopefully that is tune), so you can play along with it if you want. You'll also appreciate knowing how to tune your guitar so you can tune with and play along with other guitars or other instruments.
Enjoy your new guitar. | |
