Subject: RE: Longeveity a big factor for cows and crossbred cows

New Mexico
tend to naturally last longer. That simple.

Say there's 25% more PROFIT naturally in crossbred cows.

Reasons are ( heterosis ):
They raise healthier calves, thus generally bigger calves with less DL.
The crossbred cow herself is more fertile and tougher than any straightbred cow.

On herfys....cross em back to a Red Angus...save those hiefers and cross em back to a herfy ( assuming your wife is a herfy lover thus you end up on the porch if those cows don't LOOK like herfys ).

Just that one shot of something else helps em alot..be less bad udders, less cancer eye etc.

We've got one herfy look bull we're saving this year....but he's actually 3/4 Angus ( the Angus makeup in him is Half Black and Half Red )...just herfy color.
Reasons for saving him is not so much color...just out of a real moderate, real good black bronkle hiefer ( alot of "STYLE" ).

Always select for phenotype traits.
Never select for supposed breed ( because breed selection tends to be based off only a COLOR trait).
