When BST was approved for use , the experts said that use of it would not contribute to overproduction leading to surplus of milk and reduced prices paid to producers. Well guess what . Production increased, prices fell. In 2004 Monsanto announced problems with producing enough BST. Users were put on allocation . Milk supply shortage developed , with prices paid to producers rising . Retail milk prices shot through the roof. Customers complained about high dairy product prices. Experts told media that ban on Canadian cattle due to mad cow AND shortage of BST was cause of milk supply shortage. Face it guys , anything that you do to cause or help that cow to give one more pound of milk, be it feed , improved comfort , BST, AI, sexed semen, etc. contributes to oversupply.
