That is the same thing I am seeing about cow size - their calves are not big enough to offset the higher feed consumption of the larger cows. A frame score 5/1200-1300 lb cow can have the same yearly output as a frame score 7+ 1800-1900 lb cow on a lot less groceries than the big cow.

Just have to fight the urge to keep that nice heifer calf next spring out of one of these big cows!
