Put the calves out there, give em some exercise, keep em out of mud. Supplement with 5 lb corn/ddgs a day along with mineral. Work this up to 8 lb. a day. after 30 days. Should be able to get over 2lb a day pretty cheap. Then when the stalks are grazed down you can run the hay through em.
Regardless of where you keep the calves, consider some grain in the ration.
