but my wife's family used to have an exchange student from Germany. If I have the story straight, over there you "rent" a burial site, for something like 30 years. If there's no one around to cough up money for another 30, you're dug up and a new tenant takes your grave.
Maybe some of this is our local traditions, and wouldn't be a big deal elsewhere.
