Western Nebraska
What shots were they given? Are the vaccinations that they were supposed to be given effective on the bugs in your location? I have had quite a bit of problem over the last few years with respiratory sickness. I wouldn't think of having calves without the PHM vaccine, but there are other areas that pneumonia isn't such a problem so they don't worry about that particular one. It really depends on what your area has for disease. Check with a local vet and find out what problems they see locally and then make sure that you are protected from those. Unless you see a significant number of your group breaking with illness, I wouldn't worry much about an antibiotic at receiving. If they are out on wheat pasture and not confined, any illness will probably not be real serious.
