I mentioned this last spring, but thought I'd post some pictures about my hay feeding process. It keeps the spoiled hay out of the feeder so the feeders stay clean. It eliminates animal shoving, because every animal can eat right away. Step 1. set the bale down in a good dry spot. Step 2. with a utility knife, cut across the bale, half way up, at least as deep as the spoilage. (usually 1-2 inches deep) Step 3. pull the strings off the other side Step 4. roll the bale with the loader 1/2 revolution forward so the bottom is now the top and the outside layer falls off. Step 5. pick up bale and place in feeder. Step 6. admire God's creatures. Mostly I use a haysaver bale ring, but sometimes put them in the feedwagon. I am feeding every few days until I get the fence up on the cornstalks.
