Yes a township can be zoned. I am a trustee and was involved in zoning the township. I beleive that to start the process you need direction from the attendees at the annual township meeting. You'll need to get this on the agenda so contact your superviser. Do some background talking to neighbors and explain your concerns. It is not an easy task and many people wont understand it. If all people were honest and considerate you wouldn't need zonoing but they aren't so you do.
LaSalle county has since adopted county zoning so Serena township's zoning has been suspended. How ever our planning comission is still active for issues in our township. This gives the township a say in the county zoning process. Good luck to you.
