70% water....so an 800 lb cow which needs to gain some needs 3 lbs of air dry feed per 100 lbs of body weight.

24 lbs air dry corn silage is say 72 lbs of wet silage.

Give those cows at least a little hay ( say 4 lbs per day ) which acts as the "broom" for their rumen.

Some silage is good for cows....alot though and if that's their only feed choice can cause nitrate related blood thinning problems...takes a while ( bout 60 to 70 days ) but it's a wreck if that happens.
