Rivers, MB | To me, this is a classic example of how changing crop rotations to chase markets is not a good management decision. Who knew in April when we started planting that the cereals (wht, bly and oats) were going to have the biggest market moves. Sowing the whole farm down to lentils or canola usually doesn't pay off in the long run.
Our farm hasn't grown barley since '86 but we tried oats for the first time in 40 years. Right now, looks like a good choice.
Would have taken a contrarian to guess the hot crop this year.
