NE IOWA/ SE SD
I double checked my scale tickets from 2008 and you are correct. The average was a little lower than what I had. (1.5 lbs) apologize for my memory being off.

As far as this year goes, the natural dry down should help, but I have long thought that cooler nights which can lengthen the fill period help test weights vs. the warmer summer we have had, which has sped this crop along. I could be wrong I guess.

As far as last year I feel there were two major differences. I remember late August and early Sept being our fill and initial dry down period being very warm (best heat we had all summer) and the frost was key to the light test weights.....even though most were very close to black layer when it occured.

Appreciate your thoughts and wish you the best.

Ain't no tellin' til we start shellin'.
