Subject: Bull Question

Willmar MN

When we talk about bulls for breeding and how many they can handle and whatnot we always say just a number. A mature 3-4 year old bull should easily breed 35-30 hd of cows and if he's really good he could possibly breed up to 50. Does that mean in 2 months? 3 Months? a Year? ...................Here's my question. Let's say I have 25 hd of spring cows and 25 hd of fall cows. I would breed them approximately 6 months apart. Could one bull do this? or, would you suggest a bull for the spring cows and one for the fall cows? I have asked a few good "cow" guys in our area and they are not sure. They said if I kept the scores up on him he should be ok, and test him between breedings. He will be 4 this year. Has/does anyone do this? I'm just kicking some ideas around. Because next year will be his last year. He is starting to get an attitude, not bad, but I feel a lot more comfortable on the horse now being around him.
