Galahad, Alberta | My nephew manages a ranch for an absentee owner. Yesterday the fire trucks went racing out of town, and it turns out that their stack of about 550 green feed bales were on fire. There were no lightning strikes the night before or that morning. The general theory is that with all the late spring snow storms this year,(about 18" of wet slop from 3 storms) combined with higher than average rainfall this spring, got the bales good and wet, then with some sunshine, they started to cook. They were able to save about 50 bales from one end, but the rest are toast. Fortunately, they have a good growth of feed and grass coming, so they won't be really hurting. Doubly scary for them, as they lost a house to a fire about 6 years ago.
