Old timer told me to set my stock waterer so that it overflows a bit. This makes a bit of a mudhole they have to walk in when ever they go for water and keeps their feet hydrated.
Yes..mudholes around water troughs cause some other headaches but I guess this becomes a matter of chose your poison.
