Subject: RE: Satellite/Wireless Internet In Rural Saskatchewan

There seems to be a lots of small groups offering wireless in
this area. I will be going with Sasktel due to location of
their tower. I have three other choices that are closer, but
either bins or tree shield their towers. There is one group
that is working with Sask. pool, but am not sure if they are
province wide.
As for satellite I know there is a group selling via Radio shack
(Source) that one friend uses. Also another friend just
turned off his satellite service. I think this was direct ???.
He said the service and speed had gone down hill in the past
three years. Now they wanted another three year contract or
the monthly fee skyrockets. He is looking at a 20km hop to top
of pool elevator. My hop will be 30km to sasktel tower so I
am waiting for a higher gain antenna.
If going with a small wireless service I would check on the
number of wireless hops they use before getting to the
main internet cables. The more wireless hops the more problems
you may see with your service.
If you are thinking of online gaming don't use the satellite service.
Time delays will cause problems.
One of the reason I am changing. I lost my dail-up while typing
and had to start over again.
