Subject: Shipping beef

Northeast Iowa
Anyone have experience shipping frozen beef via UPS, FedEx, or some other route?

A couple of people have asked me about buying a quarter or half of a beef, but they live too many states away to deliver it in person. When I checked for one of them in California a few years ago, UPS and FedEX were around $4 or $5 a pound, which didn't make sense when the customer wouldn't pay much for the beef itself by comparison. One person suggested asking at the airline freight desk for a better rate, but I was told by the freight folks that they weren't taking any new customers since 9-11, so if I hadn't shipped freight with them on or before September 10, 2001, I was out of luck. Maybe today's economy has changed their outlook, but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had experience recently before I call the shipping companies and airlines again.

Thanks for any input you can offer. My email address is in my profile if you'd prefer to go that route.

Jeff
