“These are the times that try men's souls.” | We ring all Hol. bulls here. Seems to give them a little more respect for humans. If need be you can put a three foot piece of log chain in them. I've only done that once to a bull, it took the heart right out of him. I only did it because I needed to keep him for a few months, money was very short at the time. We kept him in a pen that we only went in a horseback or loader tractor. If a bull gets snotty or starts being aggressive he is down the road.
Also if a bull does get you down, the ring is your last ditch effort to save yourself, grab a hold and give it a big twist. When I go to pick out bulls for the herd, I try to pick one's with a more feminine type of head, plus I look for a hair swirl below their eyes. They are a lot calmer and last longer before getting aggressive.
