WOW, some of you fellas need to get out a little more! Obviously you haven't seen a real Polled Hereford in about thirty years. That or there are a bunch of angus breeders here doing some "marketing". Please take a look at tennesseerivermusic.com this is the website for Randy Owen's farm. He sells Polled Hereford and Angus breeding stock and was the lead singer for the country group Alabama. Also Starlake Farms from Skiatook Oklahoma, Boyd Beef Cattle or go to the American Hereford Association and catch up on what Polled Herefords look like today. There is nothing wrong with Horned Herefords, but the gap in performance between the two is not what it used to be. Many breeders, myself included, have been crossing within the breed to bring some of the horn genes back into the polled side. The polled part remains, but some of the other traits have improved tremendously. It's pretty simple in my opinion, if you are raising cattle for feedlots they need to be polled and they need a white face. Any horns will receive a dockage at selling time and the black white face will get a premium. BWF in my area gets 7 to 10 cents more than a straight black and they will still qualify for the Certified Angus Beef program. I'll put Polled Herefords up against any other breed any time.
