Subject: RE: Putting embryos in cows

New Mexico
1. DOUBLE regular calf prices.
2. Preg the cows at 90 days....HALF then....the other half next year at weaning.
3. Included in #1.
4. They stand DL, on calves, however DL on cows is yours ( also if these are C Section subject embryos THEY pay ALL that, PLUS Pay You $150 per cow too ( she's gonna be a cull most likely ).

5. Either heat check em daily and breed daily for 30 days, OR

Use MGA,
feed for 14 days, wait 19 days,
give em a shot of Estrumate,
put embryos in Everything 72 hours later.
Also, give em 2 cc's of Cystorelin when You put embryos in.

( takes 33 days, ie feed mga 14, wait 19 etc Breeder Your contracting with PAYS everything mga, estrumate, field and lab techs, cystorelin etc ),

The reason to wait 19 is that the first heat after mga is NOT a very fertile "take " heat on this.

Any Luck and if they're the right attitude kinda cows..
the afore should result in approx 3/4ths of em PG ( a BUNCH of this depends on the quality of the embryos themselves too ).

Granted you can do repeat breeds checking etc 14 to 21 days after the first breed...that is not worth messing with for you though.

Better off to Just to turn Your bulls out a week after the first breed and then that last 1/4 of the cows should pretty much stay in your calfing cycle ( no real lates ).

IF the breeder contracting this wants to tweek the afore, OR thinks the afore rate is to high, simply say NO.
(reason: any tweeks to the afore is right at 3 more trips thru the chute for You and Your cows )

Bottom line is that YOU have $300 per cow minimum in extra expenses raising embryo calves.
It takes $100 to get em PG ( extra time feeding 14 days, labor ie 2 trips thru the chute organizing the show etc ).
ALSO the breeder will likley require that you weigh calves at birth, tag em etc, AND weigh at approx 205 days of age.

Embryo calves are NOT as tough as your crossbred calves. SOOO your gonna lose a few, which is another $100 per head expense strait across on Your deal. Keep in mind, Embryo calves are likely going to short You on calf weights too. ( non weighed is non paid...that simple )

And since Your backing 25 to 50% of your cows up 2 heat cycles ie another
$100 expense to You ( keep in mind in a wreck, say bad embryos you are potentially backing almost your whole herd up ).

Since the afore is EXPENSE...them Margin that at the DOUBLE UP.

Figure calves, today's market at say $700, it takes $1,400 per calf minimum to do the embryo thing, considering all risks.
