southern MN | State highways have signs in each direction at their intersections with each other. Solar panel/battery, & 2 yellow lights. Hit the button, lights flash, & you get a $700 fine for ignoring the sign.
Sounds good on paper, if you are sitting in town.
Think the idea is to not ever have to plow after 5:30pm any more, then the plows don't have to come out until 6:00 in the morning, road probably opens up somewhere around 8:00.
Unless you run schoolbus, milk route, major paper deliveries, fuel deliveries, check/ feed livestock, or otherwise want to live a normal life. The real world starts at 5:00 or 6:00 to keep life rolling.
I understand whiteout conditions, and people are idiots & not prepared these days. I'm not blind to the dummies creating problems out on the roads - a real issue too.
But the wind died down last nite midnite with only an inch of snow, roads were passable with a good pickup. But, was 9:00 or so before the official word came the roads were open. Most businesses depend on workers, and shifts start at 6:00 or 7:00 for most of them.
County roads are plowed much better any more. But a small town typically only has the state highway crossroads for access out or in, depending on the 'good' roads.....
