We went thru that with the IRS a few years ago. One IRS venter said we were "farmers" and didn't have to pay estimated quarterly payments while another center said we did. Took about a year to get it straightened out. In making the final determination of our status ("farmer" btw) IRS used our "gross farm income" compared to our "net business income" I thought that was a little strange but didn't argue with them :~)
