Dawn, if the valve is leaking it may just be the packing. There's usually a screw cap with a hex head under the valve handle. There's a packing in there that may need a snugging up, which is common on all valves, new or old.
Find a wrench that fits the cap and turn it clockwise a little at a time. It often stops a dribble.
