southern MN | On the other hand, I can drive around town & pick up the unsecured sites, perhaps 60% of them are not secured. Another good % have the default, from the factory, passwords, so anyone with the same model can type in the password & change things.
Mind you, I am too lame to actually know how to do any 'messing with', but I can see actually very few folks do secure their home networks.
If you live out in the country with a long driveway, it will be hard for anyone to even 'find' your signal, they drop off real fast after 600 feet on a typical home unit.
It's a real good idea to set up some security, make it hard for casual passersby to access your stuff. If you don't have much real critical stuff going on, that should be good enough.
There are just so many easy targets out there, why waste time trying to crash into one with even low security......
But, i do suggest everyone set up all the security they can. Very, very good idea. Don't misunderstand me. :)
