NW Washington | You can store them right in the garden if you mulch them with a lot of straw or else dig a hole in the ground and then put in the carrots and cover with a lid and a bunch of straw or something to keep them from freezing. The storage area need to have some moisture ore else the carrots will dry out. Seems like we used to use leaves. Remember that the carrot is still alive and it need to breathe. Beets can be stored the same way.
A carrot is a biannual plant that goes to seed the second year it is in the ground, so they will survive in the ground as long as they don't freeze. But if they freeze then they will turn to mush when the thaw out. | |
