Illinois | It is a marketing gimic.
We raise chickens and sell eggs. People save their egg cartons for us and we got an Egg Lands Best Organic carton. Very fancy carton, had never seen one like it. All clear plastic and when you open it there is a flip open top covering the eggs. Anyway, the carton boasts that their hens are cage free and vegerarian fed.
We raise pearl white leghorns. They are cage free and have an enclosed pen on the front of their hen house.
A friend of ours gave us 9 free roosters the other day that he bought at a sale. (Yes, marlinpain, you) :-) He wanted the cage.
They are free range. We turned them loose in the shed and they have access to the goat pen. They seem to be loving it out there. Lots of wheat hay, corn, grass and bugs. There is a whole lot of scratchin' goin' on! | |
