My thought would be the yield data set is a very dense data set compared to a coarse grid set and that you are loosing to much detail.  With the right software you can keep the resolution and still compulate from high resolution data sets rather than a course grid.

My opinion is if you have a high density data set keep it as such, rather than parse it down.
