I've always kept them with the cow herd. They sure could be pulled out and fed better. But I get by that way. Seems like ideal method would be pull him after your first cow calves, and then put back in on desired date. Leave in all year and just sell the cows that fall behind your calving window, instead of selling opens. He won't need to be pulled again until next round.
