Lone Wolf Ok | Rebuilding Slave Cylinder. Gland has machined groove in it. Nothing was there when disassembled.
This is 'old' style cylinder with set screw to retain gland in tube.
There is no 'vent' to relieve Pressure/Vacuum when cylinder is pressurized by oil / let down by machine weight.
Hence the 'wiper' dirt seal is the entry/exit of air.
When 'leaky' cylinder removed -- it was definitely air locked as it 'bounced'.
I have now been told that this design is to allow 'burping' during operation - but I'm confused as the wiper seal will 'seal' when cylinder is retracted.
I thought a quad seal should go into the machined groove, but possibly this gland is used on 2 way cylinders somewhere else in the NH Parts system.
Your thoughts?
