Wisconsin | Is that a high water table dug out pond? or run off? or clay lined and filled? Is that pivots running in the background?
Phosphorus is the limiting nutrient in fresh water, so you'll always be fighting algae unless you can lower the phosphorus. Devils Lake WI is a very pristine lake not that far from fertile soils, that began suffering from algae from higher phosphorus. They did a little research and figured out that at certain times of the year, phosphorus was more soluble in the water and they built a siphon pipeline to drain water out of a deep layer of the lake that had the highest phosphorus. If it's worth the trouble to you, I'd try something like that, especially if the pond is fed from groundwater, irrigate from it and the phosphorus will go way down. Even better, flood irrigate from it and stir the mud up at the same time. | |
