+1 on Shoups openers. Much better tolerance on blade flatness/trueness and IIRC the same bearing as deere.

That being said, I wouldn't worry about 1.5" of pinch, as long as that's the minimum. 3.5" is quite a bit, might wear out the bearings faster? The important thing is that they cut a v shaped trench, not w shaped.
