Can you go to the knoll and place 2 taller stakes on each side of the knoll and line them up with each corner, one at a time? You may have to move them back and forth, but eventually as you are moving them, all four posts (corners and intermediate posts) should be in a straight line. You need to be able to see the stakes over the crest of the hill.

In other words, assume that the fence runs North and South with one corner at the N end and the other corner at the S end. Go to the knoll, place two taller stakes (say a 10 foot piece of inch PVC) in the ground on each side of the knoll. Then see if the corner and 2 stakes are in a straight line. You will probably have to move the stakes East and West so that they line up. If you do that repeatedly, you should eventually have a straight line of both corner posts and the two intermediate stakes.

Here is a Youtube video:

This is how I’ve done it when a straight line really matters, like on a property line. Long joints of pvc pipe, keeping those plumb, a rifle scope, and 2 people make finding the perfectly straight line this way pretty quick.
