I don't heat my house with coal either.

I heat my house with coal. The electric coop burns it on a massive and highly efficient scale out in central ND. Then they send it to me in the form of electricity. It’s the most economical and reliable energy source available here. It works great. If I had an EV, it would be a coal powered car.

Energy sources have less to do with the what rather than the how. If someone devised a corn powered power plant that could take advantage of the economies of scale such as my coop does with coal, it would be feasible. I’ll never burn coal on premises for heat, it doesn’t make sense on that small of acale. But I’ll burn it with the current situation as long as possible.
