kb ag - 4/20/2024 10:26 Leave out political and carbon reasons, just if we want clean breathable air and clean water. Why wouldn't ethanol plants burn corn to make the steam they need to make ethanol? Why not use corn to produce electricity? Seems the heat byproduct could be used to condition the corn before they burn it. Most power plants have cooling towers for the water after steam, use the heat for something? What are the biggest stumbling blocks? Variation in corn quality? Low btu's? Corn price? Couldn't the ash or residue after burning be applied to crop fields unlike the ash from coal plants? I assume natural gas is much cheaper and more reliable and easier to maintain a constant heat. Is that so and are there other factors?

Dumb question, burning corn for heat ................of course natural gas is more efficient.
If we had to burn corn for the energy to make ethanol, there would be no ethanol production.
Lets leave it at that.
