| So we started growing milo about 4 years ago. Was not a common crop in northern indiana but a local bird food processor changed all that. Right now we only have the one elevator to deliver to, 20 miles away. This has worked pretty good for the 100-300 acres we grow of milo a year, but we'd like to expand our acreage to the 800-1000 range. To do that we'd like to be able to store it, as keeping harvest timely while hauling that far and dealing with lines etc can really slow down harvest.
I've read a bunch on university publications on drying, storing etc. Just hoping somebody with more milo experience can offer some advice. We currently have a Meyer/Brock 2000 Tower dryer and a 15k wet holding tank. Lots of fan on all our bins, as I can imagine airflow is a problem.
Max drying temp? Things to do or look out for everyday? How many bushel per hour can I expect? I know fire risk is higher with milo, anything i can do to mitigate that risk? Any and all advice about this will be appreciated. | |
