Your hypothetical(s) seems to always worry about owners doing for their own.
I believe a sharp a practiced 'layman' could learn to skillfully and accurately preg check cattle. Probably at a lower price point than a licensed vet but should we go that direction?
We already are short large animal vets. Take away revenue generating tasks and more vets will move the the easy and profitable small animal practice.
Full disclosure: I buy most of my vet supplies from VallyVet. So I'm guilty of the same problem. I pull revenue from my local vet to get the products I prefer. When he retires, will the area lose another large animal vet? I hope not but one neighbor says yes.
