I know the families and circumstances of what Mrs. B mentioned.    It's truly one of the scenarios that will make you ponder why horrible things happen to wonderful people while at the same time evil people walk the same planet with seemingly no consequences.   I guess the choice is, you can somehow keep the faith and find something positive to do with it, or sink into giving up on everything.
