Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is a hole. Tourist trap, and especially bad the last few years with the “moonshine” tasting/bar craze.

Go into the mountains and stay there as much as possible. Cades Cove, Roaring Fork Motor Trail, Clingman’s Dome, Newfound Gap, Cherokee, etc.
