Roots grow on both sides of the plant, atleast thats what the big yield guys preach. I'm actually going back to dry on the planter this year and I have been wondering your exact question. My train of thought brought me to putting N down with the planter on one side of the row with maybe conceal then the other side would be the 2X2 dry.
