Given the lessor cost per pound of actual with dry fertilizer (normally the case).... the greater potential profitability with an investment to utilize more dry fertilizer. 

You'll be able to apply more nutrients per acre with a second set of 2X2 placements.  I can't provide you with documented trial results showing a yield advantage with a 2X2X2 over 2X2 placement.... but I'm confident it is true.

So the more acres you're able to plant with 2X2X2 dry fertilizer.... the sooner you will be getting a good return on your investment.
