s.e. Pa | In my “real” job I’m a superintendent for a commercial construction company. I think the do it yourself type kits would fail very fast in a real shop setting. Some of our projects get epoxy floors in labs, kitchens, shower rooms, etc. They start by grinding the floor, then put on a primer coat of epoxy, then quartz grit, then a couple coats of clear epoxy. I have never seen one fail, but they can get scratched up and I think in a shop setting it would happen quickly. I do think it would stand up to the normal things that would get spilled on it in a shop. We have built several car dealerships and the service areas are either ashford formula (or similar) treated, or ground/polished and then the densifier is used. Those are probably the toughest floors.
I guess if you’re mostly storing things and lighter repairs the better epoxy would look sharp and hold up pretty well. Heavy repairs with grinding and welding, machines that are on tracks, etc, I don’t think epoxy would work well. | |
