Your post reminded me of the occasional criticism some of us older folks get for continuing farming and buying land.  Many of us have done things similar to what you mentioned and are finally able to only work one job farming and buy a few things we did without for years.  I know what my parents and grandparents went through to get what they had and enable their family to have the opportunity for a better life than they had.  The older I get the more I realize and appreciate what they did.  As the saying goes "don't judge others until you have walked a mile in their shoes".
