We have an area that I don't like to mow and it's not a spot we can farm.  My wife wants to fill it with prairie wildflowers.  She wants to dig it up to plant them.  I have no way to till this and it's way too big to do with hand tools.

I was under the impression that you could get seeds for low or no cost from some place and just toss them on the ground this spring.  They would sprout and take over the area.

Any information or experience?
