In my experience, there is a higher weed 'yield' in spring seeded than in late summer seeding (early August here). Now, I'm all no-till, so maybe that makes a difference? From then on (crop years), weather could be a factor. Seems to be more spring weeds, than late summer weeds to compete in my case.
