Lots of great museums in the Phoenix area.
If going to the Grand Canyon you might want to stop at Sedona. Also, a little past the Grand Canyon are the slot canyons at Antelope Canyon near Page, AZ.
The Painted Desert and Petrified Forest plus Meteor Crater are interesting. Also, Sunset Crater and the Indian ruins just northeast of Flagstaff are neat drives.
