As far as seed coatings, IMO that is one of the best first steps to take. However we make our own compost extract and coat seed with that so it costs us next to nothing....
It just seems like alot of this is experimental and when you have to pay thru the nose it sure takes the fun out of it! And possibly a good chunk of the profit...
