| I'm not sure there is a clear answer to the amount of heifers being held back. I agree the smart money is keeping or buying older cows. Here feed is the cheapest it's been in quite awhile (what happens when most of the cows leave.) You could pamper those old cows pretty cheaply. One thing about LRP's, the poorest calf in the country qualifies for the same price protection the the bestest special snow flake AI sired calf.
I have my doubts that the US cow herd is going to rebuild very quickly, if at all. A down turn in prices won't be because we suddenly have a bunch more cattle in the pipeline (at least American raised cattle.) | |
