The "customers" that they are worried about aren't who you think they are.
The "customers" that they care about are share holders/investors. They're emphasizing their focus on optimizing efficiency to maximize their profitability and share price.
Its an old small plant, IMO this news isn't a real shock to the pork industry. Profits in the entire industry (including packers) haven't been good the past couple years.
