Subject: Feeder cattle rate of gain

I’m going to buying my first batch of 600# feeder calves this spring from my grandpa who calves (about 30 of them). I plan to feed hay and ground corn/pellets with buckets once daily. I want to bring them up to about 1000# and sell them, to get them out before harvest and winter.
What I’m wondering is what kind of rates of gain I can plan to see. My feed guy said I can plan for 2# from 600-800 and 3# from 800-1000. Does that seem realistic? Located in northeast South Dakota. Any other tips to a first time feeder would be appreciated!
