I am making a piece of furniture in which the leg goes through a 5 inch wide, 1.5 inch thick  piece of wood at an angle.  I made a prototype in which I drilled a 1.5 inch hole and then used a coping saw to get close to the final dimensions.  After that I used a chisel to finish.

Below is a graphic representation of what I'm trying to do.  I found the procedure tedious, I'd like to discover an easier and quicker way.
